Lauren
Nordstrom
Lauren Nordstrom acted as editor of the Brocklehurst Secondary School yearbook
during the 2009/10 term in Kamloops, British Columbia. This was the eighth
year that the school entered a yearbook to the Canadian Yearbook Review
and their "First Place With Distinction" score of 92% speaks volumes
regarding Laurens talents.
Currently attending Thompson Rivers University, Lauren commented, "As a
student with a passion for life and a desire to learn and experience as much
as possible, while also touching the lives of others, it is no wonder that I
have chosen to continue my education with a Bachelor of Arts, English and History
double major, and then pursue a degree in Education. It is my belief that a
good education is a foundation to a great life, and I hope to inspire my students
the way many of my teachers have inspired me."
Aside from always being on the academic and achievement honour rolls, Lauren
maintained involvement in volunteer and extra-curricular activities while in
high school. She volunteered at a seniors home, worked part-time, lead a peer
counseling group, managed boys basketball, and was active in dancing.
In her post-secondary environment Lauren had this to say. "As a first year
student at Thompson Rivers University, I developed something of a "sensory
overload" in my first couple of weeks. With so many new classes, people,
and activities, the campus is not just an education center, but a young adults
playground. While working toward my Bachelor of Arts as a double major in English
and History, I was still able to try my hand at Archaeology, Sociology, and
Geography, as well as join the Zeta Beta Psi sorority and attend sporting events.
With a further six years of school ahead of me (to obtain my double major and
then transfer to the Bachelor of Education), I look forward to spending time
on a campus that has expanded not only my knowledge and writing skill, but also
my confidence, friendships, and passion for life."
We wish Lauren the very best as she moves on with her studies and feel confident
that the world will be a better place because of her passion for life. We extend
our thanks to Nikki Stewart, a teacher at Brocklehurst Secondary School, who
supported Laurens application for our scholarship |
